Vilseck Germany is a town geographically separated from a nearby large American Military Base. Rose barracks or also known as Vilseck was built in 1937-1938, it was captured during World War II by the Germans. It was previously known as Südlager.
As of Dec. 31, 2005 the towns population was 6,487 citizens. The town is 64.71km^2 (24.98 square miles). Vilseck is 402 meters (1300 feet) above sea level.
Vilsecks gets its name from the location of a castle built in 1920. Eck is the German name for corner. The Vils river has a tight bend where the burg is located. Hence the name Vilseck.
